What began in 1979 as a small gathering of families around a kitchen table has grown into the nation’s leading advocate for mental health. Today, NAMI is a nationwide alliance comprising more than 600 local Affiliates and 49 State Organizations. These groups work within communities to increase awareness and offer vital support and education that was previously unavailable to those in need.
